QR menus for restaurants in Jordan: a buyer's checklist
A QR menu replaces the printed one, but only if a guest can read it on a phone within seconds. These checks show what to ask before you pay for anything.
What the menu has to replace
Write down how often your prices change, how many items you sell, and whether your guests read Arabic, English or both. A menu that changes every month and serves two languages needs different features from one that never changes.
The six checks
1. Guests need no app
Scanning the code should open the menu in the phone's browser. Ask whether a guest has to install or sign up for anything. Ask how the menu opens on an older phone and on mobile data.
2. Arabic and English on one code
Check that the Arabic layout runs from right to left, that both languages sit behind the same code, and that a guest can switch between them. Ask who translates the items, and how an edit in one language reaches the other.
3. A price change goes live the same day
Ask how long an edit takes to reach a guest who scans afterwards. Prices, photos and sold-out flags should change without a reprint, and the printed code should never need to change.
4. The menu opens quickly on a weak signal
A heavy menu with large photos can be slow on a busy street. Ask how the menu is delivered, and how fast it opens on mobile data.
5. Guests can reach you, and you can see what they do
Check which buttons a guest can tap, such as call, WhatsApp, Instagram or the map, and whether you can see views and taps over time. Ask whether the vendor reports these numbers, and how long they are kept.
6. Know what the menu cannot do
Some QR menus only show a menu. If you need guests to order or pay from the table, ask what the system does and does not do today, and whether the rest is built or planned. Get the answer in writing, with a date.
Ask every vendor
- The full cost: the monthly or yearly fee, what the free plan includes, and what you pay when you grow.
- The limits of each plan: menus, items and branches.
- Who designs the template, and whether you can change the colours and logo.
- Who owns the menu data, and whether you can export it if you leave.
- Who fixes a problem during service, and how quickly.
- Whether guests can order or pay from the menu now, or only in the future.
Ask us the same questions about iMenu
iMenu is our bilingual QR menu for restaurants. It is live, with a free plan for one menu, and it shows your menu, your contact buttons and a map link. Today it does not take orders or payments, and our product page says so. Put the same six questions to us, and ask for written answers.
