Fixed assets in BYTE: from purchase to disposal

The asset register, depreciation and disposals, linked to your chart of accounts. Each depreciation run posts to the ledger.

Last updated: 27 October 2026

What it covers

  • Asset register, with asset classes, and the accounts each class uses.
  • Depreciation runs by period. You review a draft, then execute it.
  • Straight-line, declining balance, units of production, and manual entry.
  • Bill purchases can be capitalised as assets.
  • Construction in progress is moved to an asset when the work is complete.
  • Disposals, corrections and undo, with a clearing reconciliation.

How it works

  1. Register the asset under its class, with its cost and date.
  2. Run depreciation for the period. Depreciation uses a full-month convention.
  3. Dispose of the asset when it leaves the business. The disposal posts to the ledger.

Not built yet

  • Revaluation and impairment are designed but not built.
  • Tax depreciation tables and mid-month conventions are planned.
