Accounting and tax in BYTE

Accounting is the heart of BYTE. Every other module posts to the same general ledger, so the reports agree without reconciling between systems.

Last updated: 27 October 2026

What it covers

  • General ledger and chart of accounts, with posting accounts and group accounts.
  • Trial balance, balance sheet and profit and loss. The profit and loss can also be read by department, project or machine.
  • VAT on every sales and purchase document, through tax codes that check the company's tax registration.
  • Bank reconciliation: import a bank statement, match its lines to journal entries, and carry unmatched items into the next period.
  • Opening balances, entered once for each branch, and manual journals with an approval step.
  • Recurring journals, and a period close that refuses new postings to a closed period.
  • Tax packs for Jordan and the UAE. The UAE VAT return is reconciled to the ledger.

How it works

  1. Documents from sales, purchases, stock and payroll post to the ledger as they are recorded.
  2. Reconcile each bank account to its statement, and review the trial balance.
  3. Close the period. A closed period refuses new postings, so the reported figures stay fixed.

Not built yet

  • Sending e-invoices to national systems, such as JoFotara, ZATCA or the UAE's FTA, is planned.
  • Revaluing foreign-currency balances in the ledger is planned.
  • Budget alerts are planned.

Questions about accounting in BYTE

Does BYTE apply VAT to every invoice?

VAT is applied through tax codes on each sales and purchase document. A document cannot use a tax code that the company is not registered for.

Can I reconcile my bank accounts in BYTE?

Yes. Import the bank statement, match its lines to the journal entries, and see any difference. Items that have not cleared carry forward to the next period.

Is BYTE available yet?
